CURRENT CANDIDATES: Vice Presidential Disclosures Presidential, vice presidential and congressional candidates must all file ethics reports outlining their assets and liabilities such things as sources of income, real estate held for investment purposes, stocks and debt.
Sarah Palin According to a September 25 article by the Associated Press, Sarah Palin “requested and received an extension of the deadline for revealing her personal finances, until the day after her only debate with Democrat Joe Biden.
“The Republican vice presidential candidate received a four-day extension from the Federal Election Commission.
“The federal financial disclosure report was initially due Monday [September 29]. Now, Palin has until October 3, the day after her debate in St. Louis with Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee.
“In granting the extension, the FEC said that if Palin requests still more time, the last possible due date would be October 6.
“Palin’s federal financial disclosure report will provide the most complete look yet at her assets and liabilities.”
Joe Biden According to a CBSNews.com blog on the 2008 election, Joe Biden has disclosed that he and his wife, Jill, earned a total of $319,853 in 2007. This amount includes royalties from Biden’s book, income from his wife’s teaching job, and Biden’s Senate salary.
The Bidens’ deductions break down to $26,500 for state/local/real estate taxes, nearly $39,000 in home mortgage interest, and just under $1,000 in “Gifts to Charity.”
Also from Biden’s Senate financial disclosure form: the Senator received a $112,500 book advance from Random House and donated $1,025 in honoraria from celebrities David Letterman and Bill Maher to charity.
