The Centennial Citizen from Colorado Community Newspapers recently ran a helpful explanation of the caucus process that detailed the following steps that usually take place at a Colorado precinct caucus:
--election of a chairperson and secretary --election of representatives to the party’s county central committee --election of delegates to the county assembly --preference poll votes for candidates for each office involved in the upcoming election
To be listed on a ballot in the fall, a candidate “must receive 30 percent of the votes of the delegates” at the county assembly (usually held later in the spring) or “collect the required number of signatures of party members who are registered voters.” Cases involving more than one candidate in a single party may result in a run-off during a party primary in August.
