By December 31, 2009, Andrew Romanoff had raised a total of $630,000 for his campaign to unseat the current junior U.S. senator from Colorado, Michael Bennet. Of that total, his campaign had $480,000 on hand at the end of 2009.
Romanoff donated $37,500 to his campaign. The remaining $592,500 reportedly was donated by individuals, with no donations coming from PACs (Political Action Committees).
The 590 Individual donors who gave between $200 and $4800 total to the Romanoff campaign by the end of 2009 included executives, retirees, doctors, lawyers, venture capitalists, real estate professionals, consultants, teachers, engineers, and community activists. Denver-area companies and organizations with which some Romanoff donors are affiliated include:
--Corporations such as Oracle, IBM, and Siemens
--School districts such as Denver Public Schools and Aurora Public Schools
--Universities such as the University of Colorado, Denver University, and Devry University
--Medical establishments such as Denver Health, New West Physicians, and Kaiser Permanente
--Restaurants such as Domino’s Pizza and Pasta Jay’s
--Law firms such as The Bricmont Law Firm, Edwards & Taylor, and Horowitz Forbes, LLP
--Financial institutions such as Colorado East Bank & Trust, Wells Fargo Private Bank, and Independent Bankers of Colorado
--Community organizations such as The American Humane Association and the Anti-Defamation League
Donors from outside the state include the president of Ralston Industries in Columbus, OH; a professor at the University of Missouri, Kansas City; an editor in San Francisco; a law professor at Touro Law Center in New York City; physicians in Carmel, IN as well as Walnut Creek, CA and Boca Raton, FL; attorneys in Bethesda, MD as well as Stamford, CT and New York City; a consultant with Dewey Square Group in Washington, DC; a Harvard professor in Newton, MA; and associates at the Biblical Archeological Society in Washington, D.C.
Out-of-state donors were responsible for a total of $63,600 in contributions to the Romanoff campaign as of December 31, 2009, approximately 10% of all funds raised.
